Sometimes fate can deliver different outcomes. That has certainly been the case in the last week. Due to my moving date from my current rental house being locked in and the extra costs for the house move being lumbered on us, I have decided to forgo doing the Canberra 2 Day Walk and the Coburg 24hr next year.  But the trouble is with me, if I dont have an aim or end goal with my training I end up not doing much at all.  What else is on in the first few months of 2010?

The answer is the Canberra Marathon in April.  Why not?  It was the Marathon where my love affair for long distance started a couple of decades ago.  I havent run properly for a long time, but there’s five months until the Marathon, so it’s time to conquer the Marathon again.  My PB for a running Marathon is 4h23m15s.  Dont think I will beat that, but I believe I can conquer 5 and a half hours!  To finish will be the main thing and achievement!

My Training so far – Last week I did 2 walking sessions and one run/walk session on the treadmill.  This week I have ran/walked the last two days and about 4 and a half kms each day.  I have to write a proper programme soon. There are plenty available on the Net – just have to adapt one to being a shift worker.

For the record – I still have the ambition to achieve a few things in long distance walking, so I am not lost to the walking world!  But it’s time to do something differrent, ignite a new spark and see what flies!
